Day 1: Weighing Things Out

Today's vegan bites include:
1.) Chips, salsa and guacamole
2.) Vegetarian tamale, rice and black beans
* I forgot to jot down everything I ate before dinner

(117.8lbs, 24.8% body fat)

I haven't weighed myself in centuries so having to step on the scale was no fun. According to the scale I'm using, a whole quarter of my physical being is FAT! And that's annoying. But what really makes it even more annoying, is how this type of info can shift the focus away from the pledge and conscious living to skinniness and the superficial. Sure, they matter, in some ways. But for me, they're not a factor when I'm considering my health and wellness. When it comes to the physical form, I just see if I fit into my jeans and I can still wear my favorite shorts and skirts and that my arms have some sort of tone to them.

So measuring my weight and fat percentage brings me right back to my neurotic 20s. I do understand that these measures are used by many; and for many, there isn't that neuroticism. So, for those of you who like tangible, measurable data, here you go...

Weight: 117lbs
Body Fat %: 24.8%

In terms of how I feel, I feel fine. I woke up a little tired and this stayed with me all day. That's because I slept three hours the night before.

As for eating, I went out to dinner with my friend, who's vegetarian, and guess what? Vegetarian entrees are so different from vegan entrees!! Vegetarians eat cheese. And when at a Mexican restaurant, this can be a very accommodating thing. Yes, their non-cheese options were limited but I very much enjoyed eating salsa, chips slathered with heaping tablespoons of guacamole, a vegetarian tamale, rice and black beans. Yum!!
