Day 10: The Cost of Higher Quality Chocolates Just Might Help Curb My Chocolate Consumption

Today's vegan bites include:
1.) My Green Drink - kale, collards, spinach, apple, lemon
2.) 16oz. chocolate soy dark mocha and vegan peanut butter cookies (2)
3.) 16oz. Mexican mocha
4.) Strawberries
5.) Leftover pad thai & leftover vegetable curry (from last night)

My mid-morning stop at Whole Foods for my vegan peanut butter cookies and soy chocolate dark mocha included an introduction to "Righteously Raw" chocolates. They're USDA certified organic, certified vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free and have no refined sugar. I sampled a couple little nibbles of the Maca Chocolate Bar and the 90% Cacao Caramel Bar and completely dug 'em. Way chocolatey in that dark chocolate kinda way. And the Maca Bar had a kinda cake-like, cookie-like consistency to it. Maca's supposed to give you an energy boost. Added one of each to my snack stash.

Speaking of energy boost, the guy serving the Righteously Raw samples has been vegan for two and a half years and he mentioned the importance of B12 supplements. Apparently, a vegan diet does not supply the much needed B12 vitamin. So I picked up a bottle of Jarrow Formulas Methyl B-12 citrus-flavored lozenges (it can be taken as a lozenge, a liquid you put under your tongue or a pill). The lozenges weren't bad. I ended up chewing it as opposed to letting it dissolve in my mouth.

Back to the Righteously Raw chocolates...while quite tasty and clearly of the highest quality, it won't be something I'll be enjoying on a daily basis. At $5.99 for 2.3oz (think 2"x3"), it's a touch outside my price point. It's definitely something I would treat myself to, until, of course, I find something just as wonderful and more affordable.

Oh, and tonight, I attended a human trafficking event. Great performances and tasty refreshments. They had a chocolate fountain and various fruits. I just munched on a slice of apple. They had milk and half and half at the coffee bar. Since there were no non-dairy creamer options, I got a little creative. I saw that they were serving mexican hot chocolate. I picked up the chocolate mix and read the label...no dairy/animal products!! So, I poured 12oz of the coffee, added the hot chocolate and made myself a mexican mocha!! It was yum-my. And since I knew none of the baked goods were vegan, I brought one of the vegan peanut butter cookies I picked up this morning with me.
